MADI develops cooperation with Laos

On August 9, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Vilawan Yiapohe and Acting Rector of the University Dmitry Yefimenko met at MADI.

Besides representatives of the embassy of Lao People's Democratic Republic, our university was also visited by Sergey Krivoruchenko, a board member of the Russian-Laotian Friendship Society, and Natalia Kostrova, Executive Secretary of the Society. In addition to the acting rector from MADI, the meeting with the guests was attended by Rustam Mirzaev, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Victor Blagodatskikh, Head of International Cooperation Department and Professor Andrey Strygin, Head of the UN RAS Center in MADI.

Since 1962 our University has been training highly qualified personnel for various sectors of the national economy of the Republic. Many Laotians who graduated from MADI have achieved great success and hold senior positions in their country, thanks to which friendly relations and cooperation between the Lao PDR and the Russian Federation have reached a high level and continue to develop.

Dmitry Efimenko welcomed the guests and noted that for Lao students at our university all conditions have been created for them to receive quality education. Vice-rector for international relations Rustam Mirzaev, in turn, drew attention to the fact that the pandemic had no effect on the training of foreign citizens. Despite the difference in time zones, the educational process in the online mode has been fully implemented. Besides, there was a supervisor for every foreign student who helped to solve all arising problems.

During the meeting, the parties discussed further perspectives of cooperation. When the situation with the pandemic stabilizes, an active exchange of students and professors will resume as it was before. New educational modules and training and retraining programs will be introduced, both in full-time and online forms.

Professor Andrey Strygin expressed the hope that with the strengthening of the UN-ASEAN partnership, which includes Laos, we will be able to use the full potential of our countries to pursue common interests in various fields. One of the priority tasks is to establish a partnership between leading educational organizations and research institutes in Russia and Laos.

Recall that in 2015 our university was awarded the Order of Friendship of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Laos Sommad Folsena, who graduated from MADI with a red diploma in 1978, took part in the ceremony of awarding the Order. During the years of successful cooperation more than 200 Laotian students studied at our University.
