MADI celebrated military motorist day

On Friday, May 28, officers and cadets of the Military Training Center at MADI took part in a solemn rally honoring the memory of military motorists.

On May 29 Russia celebrates the Day of military motorist. On this day in 1910 in St. Petersburg the first training motor transport company was formed.

On the eve of the holiday a solemn meeting was held near the monument to the Heroes of Automobilists in Troparevo attended by representatives of the central military authorities of the Russian Defense Ministry, veterans of the ministry and the automotive industry, soldiers of the Moscow garrison, as well as cadets and officers of the Military Training Center at the MADI. The participants observed a minute of silence in memory of the frontline drivers and laid flowers and wreaths to the monument.

During the Great Patriotic War, military motorists transported cargo along the famous "Road of Life". Their courage and heroism allowed the blockade of Leningrad to endure and brought the Great Victory closer. In various armed conflicts the drivers more than once sacrificed themselves to fulfill the tasks of technical and transport support of the troops.

The Monument to the Heroic Automobile Drivers was unveiled in September 2015. The granite wall of the monument immortalizes the names of 17 drivers who were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and 53 Heroes of Socialist Labor.
