New joint electric lab opened with “KAMAZ Innovation Center”

On December 15, at the MADI test site, a new innovation laboratory for electrical equipment in transport was opened, a joint project with the largest industrial partner of the university "KAMAZ Innovation Center".

The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Pyotr Kucherenko, Director of the KAMAZ Innovation Center (Skolkovo) Alexei Gorbatovsky, as well as heads of the Moscow Department of Transport and Infrastructural Development.

Acting Rector Andrei Keller emphasized that the new lab was the first of a number of joint projects between MADI and its major industrial partners within the framework of the university consortium with leaders of the automotive and road industry, which is currently under development.

The laboratory is equipped with the most modern equipment provided by our industrial partner for scientific research, educational and practical activities. Autonomous vehicles KAMAZ Shuttle 1221, medium-duty truck KAMAZ 4308, electric bus KAMAZ 2257E and other equipment will be used in the educational process.

The laboratory also opens up new opportunities as a unique experimental and analytical base for international projects of the Formula Student series in electric and unmanned prototype classes.

Our Department of Electrical Engineering and Electrical Equipment is one of the oldest in the university. It stood at the origins of all systems of domestic automotive electrical equipment. Scientific traditions and rich experience allowed the department to successfully carry out world-class research for starter-generator units and hybrid vehicles. Over the past decade, the department has done much research in the field of EVs and mechatronic systems for autonomous vehicles.
