First online MADI graduation ever

July 21st was the first time when our graduation ceremony went online.

Six months ago, such an idea would have seemed unrealistic. Online education, or e-learning has become common, but thesis defense and graduations – online? The pandemic made it all real. We decided to celebrate graduation no matter what. “The guys should remember this most unusual ceremony,” said Acting Rector Andrei Keller, who proposed having an online graduation for the university.

The graduation ceremony took place on July 21 on YouTube. Honorary alumni of MADI addressed the graduates - deputies of the State Duma Kazbek Taysayev and Evgeny Moskvichev, race car driver Boris Shulmeister, Deputy Head of Rostransnadzor Aslanbek Akhokhov, Minister of Transport and Roads of Dagestan Shirukhan Gadzhimuradov, Director General of the ANO "Russia - the Land of Opportunities" Alexei Komissarov and Rector of the Grozny State Oil Technical University Magomed Mintsaev.

It was decided that honors diplomas should be delivered by the rector personally, at least some of them. Out of 70 honor graduates only one from each faculty was chosen by drawing, and the presentation of diplomas to the lucky ones was broadcasted online.

But the main surprise of the graduation ceremony was the drawing of prizes - free certificates for an advanced course "English for Business Communication". 15 graduates from different faculties will start learning Business English in September.

The musical score was provided by the acapella group Rain Drops - recognized experimenters known from their performances in the We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia musicals.
