MADI graduate elected president of Abkhazia

56-year-old Aslan Georgievich Bzhania won the rerun election of the President of Abkhazia on March 22. According to the local election committee, he won 56.5% of the vote with a turnout of 71.56% (95.1 thousand voters).
Aslan Bzhaniya was born in 1963, in 1985 he graduated from the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction Institute, in 1991 – the Higher Courses KGB, in 1999 - the Academy of National Economy under the Russian government. From 1991 to 1992 he worked in the KGB of Abkhazia, then served in the state security agencies of the republic. In 2010–2014, he served as the Chairman of the State Security Service of Abkhazia. He has the rank of major general. In August 2014, he participated in the presidential election and lost to Raul Khadjimba. In July 2015, he headed the Opposition forces block of Abkhazia. In 2017, he was elected to the republican parliament.
