Faculties

Courses of study packages being lectured for the students of the following graduating Chairs (academic departments) under the Faculty of Highway and Civil Engineering:

   Bridges, tunnels and civil engineering structures;

   Road research and construction methods;

   Construction and operation of motorways;

   Airports, engineering geology and geotechnics;

   Structural mechanics.

Bridges, tunnels and civil engineering structures is a graduating  Chair bringing out alumni of several engineering educational degrees:    

- Bachelor in Civil Engineering in the scope of “Highway Bridges and Tunnels” under the study program  08.03.01 “Civil Engineering”;

- Engineer Specialist Degree under the study program  08.05.01 «Engineering of special-purpose buildings and structures”;

- Master of Civil Engineering under the study program  08.04.01 “Civil Engineering” in the scope of “Engineering Structures in transportation industry, construction and maintenance methods”.

Annual output of the Chair consists of more than 80 alumni-students.

Besides, the Chair does carrying out postgraduate doctoral students under educational speciality 05.23.11 “Engineering design and structuring of highways, subways, airdromes, bridges and transportational tunnels”.

Subjects

More than 100 disciplines are taught at the department. They are distributed between streams of different levels of education (bachelors, specialists and masters) in accordance with the curriculum.

Delivered disciplines can be divided into several courses:

- general engineering ("Architecture", "Physics for buildings", "Metrology", "Earthquake Resistance of Structures", "History of Transport Construction", etc.);

- design-and-engineering direction (“Footings and Foundations”, “Bridge Engineering Design”, “Design of Highway and Urban Tunnels”, “Modeling of load-bearing structures of highway bridges and tunnels”, “Steel structures”, “Reinforced concrete and masonry structures”, etc. );

- design and construction technology branch ("Technological processes in construction", "Construction of bridges", "Construction of highway and urban tunnels", "Technology and organization of construction process", etc.);

- scientific research and applied science (“Fundamentals of scientific research”, “Scientific support during construction”, etc.);

- maintenance research, and related to the repair and reconstruction of existing structures ("Monitoring of bridges and tunnels", "Maintenance and reconstruction of bridges", etc.].

In addition to teaching academic disciplines, the department organizes various types of practices - educational, industrial, scientific research.

Science Achievements

The department’s developments have found application in highway bridges, tunnels, industrial and civil buildings.

The projects carried out under the guidance and with the participation of the department staff include:

- Novoarbatsky and Avtozavodsky and other bridges in Moscow;

- engineering structures of the third transport ring (TTK) of Moscow;

- Lefortovskiy, Serebryanoborsky, Alabyano-Baltiyskiy and other tunnels;

- transport interchange on Leningradskiy prospect. and Alabyana street.

Some areas of the scientific work of the department at present:

- development of methods for calculating cable-stayed and suspension bridges for seismic effects;

- the use of composite materials in the construction of transport structures;

- minimization of deformations of the earth's surface and soil mass during the construction of shallow tunnels;

- assessment of the technical condition and reliability of the transportational facilities under maintenance;

 - Improving the design methods and modeling of reinforced concrete structures with disperse fiber armament.

There are patents for inventions in these areas.

The laboratory of the department in its entire history has examined and tested more than 700 bridge structures and several hundred industrial and civil buildings.

In past years, such well-known specialists as prof. Gibshman E.E., Kalmykov N.Y., Polivanov N.I., Kirillov, V.S., Khlebnikov E.A., Gibshman M.E., Potapkin A.A. Ivanov-Dyatlov I.G., Kochetkov D.I., Dellos K.P., Popov G.I., Serykh R.L. worked on the department and formed a Chair and a Scientific School.

Currently, such well-known scientists in Russia are working at the department - Salamakhin P.M., Makovsky L.V., Vasiliev A.I., Popov V.I., Ageev V.D., Kurlyand V.G., Novak Y.V.  and others.

Students Activity

Students of our department annually receive prizes in the Olympiads in the disciplines of "Engineering Graphics", "Resistance of Materials", etc.

Independent student and joint student reports are prepared by teachers at the annual MADI International Research Conferences, practical research conferences and other annual conferences. Student articles are published annually.

Students of our department are actively involved in the public life of MADI University (humor club, sports dancing, student union activities), in MADI sports teams (swimming, volleyball, hockey, rally).
